About Us

South Tyneside Football Club was established in 1987 to give youngsters the opportunity to develop football and social skills.

The history of South Tyneside Football Club

The history of South Tyneside Football Club is a long and proud one – but it’s what we do at present that puts us in a league of our own.

Launched at Gypsies Green by Frank Johnston, Davey Johnson and Klause Clossier, South Tyneside Football Club was set up to support youngsters across South Tyneside to develop football skills as well as important social skills.

To this day, this is still the ethos of the club – giving youngsters from the age of four to 18 an outlet for physical activity which in turn supports mental wellbeing.

We provide grassroots football for children of all ages.

Some of South Tyneside Football Club’s players have gone on to have successful professional football careers.

Club Chairman

WIll be announced soon

South Tyneside Football Club is currently in transition of appointing a new chairman.

Sadly, our former chairman, Paul Bennett, passed away in August 2024. South Tyneside Football Club would like to take this opportunity to thank our ‘local hero’ to grassroots football and to the club. Paul was Mr South Tyneside Football Club himself.

“Paul, we salute you and thank you for your devotion and services to both STFC and grassroots football in the region. Without you, Paul, STFC would have not continued to grow. Such was your determination to ensure this happened, and as your friend and club secretary, we will do everything we can to ensure your spirit lives on within our club,” Peter Spottiswood.

South Tyneside Football Club’s Secretary is Peter Spottiswood.

Peter joined the club in 1995, running an under-9s team, coaching them and managing them until they were 17. He’s also managed a ladies’ team within the league.

He hung up his ‘manager’s boots’ and became Club Secretary in 1998. His passion and determination, make him the perfect principal administrator for South Tyneside Football Club and Peter ensures the Club and its members function effectively.
